April 18 Picnic, 2012: Paula Friedman will make arrangements to rent the pavillion at Founders Park. They need a check for $50 to hold the date. A Volunteer request sheet is being circulated… please consider doing what you can by taking the contact information and letting us know where you can help. | | Old Business | Minutes of November meeting available on website. Approved as written. | | New Business | 1) Bylaws and Articles of Association. Janice briefly outlined the changes discussed at previous meeting. The new bylaws and articles were distributed at last meeting and are available for viewing on the website. Called for motion to accept the Bylaws and Articles of Association. Cris Sandifer moved to accept them as written. Seconded by Carolyn Friedman. All in favor. New bylaws and articles accepted. 2) Art in Public Buildings – Cris Sandifer asked for an assistant to help her disseminate art to the various buildings and “circulate” art that has been there for awhile. The artist name, price and contact information is posted near any hanging art. Information is on the website and forms available. | | Membership | Sharron reported that the membership application is now on line and that indemnity clauses are part of the new membership application. For those members who did not fill out a membership application, paper copies of the indemnity clauses are being passed out. Please sign them to keep in our files. These will protect the guild for all members who participate in outings. | | Treasurer Report | Michael Mayer gave a brief report: 76 of 108 members have paid dues to date. Member roster will be created and made available after the December 31st deadline. | | Plein Air Report | Paula Friedman, Lynn Lamont and Sharon Alvarado reported on exciting plans: Dates and Places have been determined and will be posted on the website soon. Some highlights this year will be: home of John Landau, Hilton Hotel grounds, Murray Nelson building and grounds, Wendy Droney estate, the Sea Base, Theatre of the Sea and the home of Bill Sears. Pilot House also open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 2:00. Members are asked to purchase lunch from the restaurant | | Student Education Committee Report | Flagler Centennial Wall Mural – Lynn Lamont reported on the considerable progress thus far. Thank you to all members and volunteers who have dedicated their time and talent. Lynn read a list of members who have participated. Brief overview of the dedication shared with the members. | | Workshops Report | Cris Sandifer led the discussion on workshops. Tom Jones is available for a one day workshop on December 12th. Open to all in the morning. Lunch will then be served to paying attendees and the afternoon will be devoted to the workshop. Members asked if interested in Abby Bellard workshop – how to use computer graphics, and to optimally use Iphone, Ipad and Photoshop. Overwhelming interest on show of hands. | Cris will follow up with Abby regarding possible dates in April | Annual Art Show | Sharron gave an overview of the annual art show plans thus far: Dates and on-line entry forms are available on the website currently. Deadline for art entries is February 9th. Members who require assistance with the on-line application process are encouraged to contact board members. | | Slogs | Carolyn Smith and Carolyn Friedman reported on the plans for slogs in January. Signup sheets circulated. Meeting place for car pooling will be at 0900hr at the Winn Dixie in Key Largo. Members with Golden Eagle cards asked to bring them and plan on taking passengers into the park. $5 contribution for the park guides will be collected. Walking sticks are available at Bealls or from Eric for $20 contribution. Find some Wellies as the water will be much higher this year!!! Brown bag lunches on day of slog – no restaurants. J | | AGPI Christmas Dinner | Hosted by Jack and Susie Ley. Signup sheet for pot luck food items passed to members. Requested volunteers to assist with chair and table set up. Start time 6:30 address 389 Laguna Ave. Bring $10 gift for exchange. | | Open Studio Days | Carolyn Friedman reported on this opportunity to share and grow as artists. 10:00 to 2:00 in the Garden Club Building. Dates listed on the calendar. | | Announcements | Stone Crab and Seafood Festival Jan 28th and 29th tables available for artists wanting to show/sell art. AGPI has racks and a tent for use by any member wishing to borrow them. Library has need of art cards to be donated to the library Friends of the Library Gift Shop. Donation of your art cards requested. Volunteer request sheet is being circulated – Janice encouraged members to help out in an area that interests them. AGPI DVD education library has 4 new DVD’s for members to borrow. Please sign them out but remember to return them!!! Some are currently missing from the library. December 17th – Christmas at the Rain barrel. Bring your child or pet in for a picture with Santa. 10:00 to 6:00 Clyde Butcher will be speaking at the Morada Way third Thursday walk. $75 dollars for book and presentation. Jan 21 and 22nd is the Art Expo at the Morada Way – juried show. Information on the website. Upper Keys Concert Series (now Florida Keys Concert Association) has several lovely concerts coming this season. New Gallery Guide from Florida Keys Council of the Arts passed out to members. | | Moment of Silence | Sharron asked for a moment of silence in memory of the 70th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. | | Adjournment | Michael Mayer moved to adjourn the meeting. Janice Lee asked for a moment of silence and tribute for Jan Lawliss who passed away during the summer. A memorial service will be held for her in January. Details will be posted on the website. Carol MacKenzie welcomed as new Recording Secretary, replacing Kathy Giurtino. Thank you to Kathy for homemade baked goods and Linda for ongoing hospitality. Introduction and welcome to all visitors and new members. | | Old Business | Minutes of last meeting available on website. Approved. | | New Business | 1) New Articles of Association and Bylaws. Introduced to the members present that we applied to the IRS to become free of Federal taxes. We will be a 501c7, not-for profit guild for social purposes. The changes that will be visible to the member is our new name: Art Guild of the Purple Isles. New bylaws circulated to members and will be voted on at the December general meeting. Indemnification statements available for signatures at December meeting and on the website. All checks will need to be written to AGPI from this time forward. New post office box: 372984 Key Largo FL 33037 2) New Logo Members presented with new logo. 3) Thank you to Jim Grainger, CPA, husband of Daily and Attorney Gregg Friedman, Paula’s husband. 4) Membership dues: Michael Mayer announced that dues notices will go forth to all members by e-mail if they have an address or by snail mail if they are not on the web. Dues are: $30 for member or $35 for family Couples membership. Members who have not paid dues by December 31st will not be able to participate in annual art show, Joe Cella art show, workshops or slogs. Membership forms are available on line and will soon be available as an on-line form. 5) Calendar of events passed out to the members and also available on the website. Some times and places of events are yet to be determined but dates are reserved. 6) Christmas Party will be December 14th at 6:30 at the home of Jack and Susan Ley. 389 Laguna Ave Key Largo Chinese auction and BYOB | Minutes Ammended December 2011 Carol MacKenzie | Student Education Committee Report | Lynn Lamont reported on the huge Flagler Centennial Mural Project. Well received by the members. A signup sheet circulated for volunteers for November 9th painting with the Island Christian School Students. Members informed that the Board of Directors has committed $500.00 toward this project. Grants also received from the Arts Council of the Keys $750, and Bank of America, Berry’s Paint, Benjamin Moore, Home Depot and several individuals who do not wish to be identified. Many thanks to the Dreavers and to Jacqueline Dozier for their enthusiastic support to student art over the summer. | Lynn Lamont, Carol MacKenzie | Treasurer Report | Michael Mayer will be consolidating accounts under the new AGPI identity. Currently working on dues notices and collecting for workshops. | | Slog | Exhibition of oils and watercolors at the Everglades Coe Visitors Center has been postponed due to a date conflict. A new date will be pursued. January 9th and January 16th, both Mondays are set aside as Slog dates. Members are going to be asked for $5 for a tip for the guide. | Claudia Moriarty | Plein Air Report | Sally reported that Paula Friedman and Sharon Alvarado will continue to provide great opportunities for plein air painting. Sally asked the membership for a volunteer with social contacts to assist with finding venues and confirming with the property owners. Pilot house restaurant also available on Wednesdays from around 0900 to 1400hr. | Sally Burke | Workshops Report | Cris reported that she was asked repeatedly for a deadline for the checks for the workshops and she told everyone that Nov 1st is the opening date for checks. The first workshop is presently full and there are two slots available for the second workshop. Open studio days will occur at the Garden Club. Bring your own lunch and come and paint with your friends. | | Volunteers Needed | Scrap Book Person to collect, clip local press items and save them Graphic Artist to assist with various projects that come up during the year. Plein-Air co-chair to work with Sally Burke Port-a-Potty for the Flagler wall painting day! J | | Announcements | Morada Way Gallery Walks 3rd Thursdays Member Gin Todd provides oil painting classes Tues nights @ 6:30 hr and Thursday mornings @ 9:00 am in the St. James Episcopal Church. Preview will be at Islander Art Exhibit. | Michael to add information to website. | Celebration | Honorary Membership awarded to Molly Michaels for 35 Years of membership and also a very Happy 90th Birthday! Also awarded an honorary membership is Riki Pfeiffer for her longstanding, hardworking contribution to the Guild.
