PRESIDENT'S LETTER TO THE GUILD         January, 2012

 Dear Friends

This is another exciting season for all of us!  2012 will be fun, educational and inspiring in our little world of at and friendship here in the Keys.  Warm wishes to all of you!

As you know, the Henry Flagler Memorial Mural painting is at completion.  It has been an exhilarating ride.  We started with a desire to make an artistic impact on the community and extend open arms  and encouragement for students to become involved in art for the public....by George ( or should I say " by Henry") we did it!  With the dedication ceremonies scheduled for Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 3:00 in the afternoon, we  have completed a major art project that will be a lasting historic monument here in Key Largo.  Congratulations to the artists who have given so much of their time and talent to make this a long-lasting success!  Thanks, too, to the students of the Art Club of Island Christian School for their enthusiasm, skills  and contribution.

Never could this have happened without the ability and dedication of Cris Sandifer, Project Art Director, who was able to transform the rendering from a 3x5 post card to the 60 x11 foot concrete wall!  She then projected the large image onto the wall...and the fun began.   Perseverance by Lynn Lamont, Educational Liaison for the Guild and determination of your intrepid president, formed the backbone of the project.   Thirty five  artists and workers volunteered approximately six weeks with twenty two days of actual painting time.  AGPI members include:  Cris Sandifer, Lynn Lamont, Janice Lee, Carol MacKenzie, Jason Barth, Doug Dolinar, Linda Salisbury, Ruben Machado, Shirley Abraham, Mary Border, Wendy Cahill, Helena Gondry, Lisa LaPrada, Teri Brozak, Fran Anderson,David Adamusko, Carolyn Smith, Susie Ley and Dan Lawler.  From Island Christian School:  Fran Young, teacher,  Nathalie Sassine, Diana Dupre, Bailee Egan, Jessie Ledwith, Erin Martin, Olivia Manz, Jasmine Theodosiou, Tommy Lindholm, Mandy Ledwith, Jacquie Herre, Cailin Reckwerdt, Andrea Scott, Ileana Garcia and Asia Keever.

We will enjoy three major three day workshops this season and two shorter workshops in addition to our "Open Studio Days" and Plein Air outings.  There is truly something for everyone to enjoy at the Art Guild of the Purple Isles.

Please continue to check our  website where Michael Mayer has done an outstanding job of giving you updated and important information about  dates to remember as well as the forms you will use for various activities, such as the application for your entries for the March Annual Judged Show at the Key Largo Library.

Feel free to call your Officers or Board Members with any questions or comments and ideas you have.  And  remember that the Guild is a labor of love on everyones part.  Please volunteer as often as you can  to do as much as you can to help the fun roll on.

Fondly, Janice Lee, President   Art Guild of the Purple Isles
